Iphone 6 can't access photos in Icloud

Hi, My husbands Iphone 6+ is being a bit awkward! It has its own Apple ID, but is linked to my apple ID with family sharing. However, whilst all his photos upload to my phone, my MacBook and his MacBook, he can't access any of the photos on his phone.

All the photo sharing toggles are switched to on, I've even tried logging him out of his ID and into mine and it still won't share anything.

One thing thats a bit weird though, he has 4000 photos stored on his phone which is taking up 50gb apparently, where as my phone has 35,000 photos and they're only taking up 19gb! I realise most of those photos are in the cloud though 😉

How can I get everything shared on his phone?

Neither of us are worried about the other seeing what we're doing.

I appreciate that, but are you ready for the mistaken deletions and the like.

Ok so I logged him into my apple ID, I now have ALL his photos on my photos, but he still doesn't have any!!

Please start by telling us your “iCloud Photo Library” and “My Photo Stream” settings on all of your devices. (Settings➔ Photos & Camera on your iOS device and Photos➔ Preferences➔ iCloud on your Mac)

Please also advise if there is any ongoing sync activity on any of your devices (Activity includes uploading, updating, downloading or preparing).

Check the settings when it's finished backing up, but if there is still some activity on his phone...

It may need to finish before you start to see the photos you expect to.

Also, how much free space does his phone have?

Also, if he took photos on his phone while logged into his account, those photos will be in his account and be removed from the phone when you sign out (unless you opt to keep them).

Logging into your ID will probably do what you want in respect of photos, however it is never a very good idea and usually ends up in tears. By signing into your ID, he will have access to all your email, contacts, appointments etc

So if I log his phone into my apple id that should sort it out and he will then be able to see all the photos in the iCloud? I've just noticed his computer is logged into my apple ID for the iCloud, but the iTunes store is logged into his apple id!

I'm sure Apple used to be more simple than this!

Ok so I logged him into my apple ID, I now have ALL his photos on my photos, but he still doesn't have any!! This is driving me crazy, I think I'm going to have to go to an Apple Store and see if they can untangle it!

I've now got photos he took 3 years ago turning up in my "all photos"!!

God knows whats going on, thank you for helping!!

At the moment his phone is doing an iCloud backup, so I'm leaving it alone at the moment (ITs got an hour to go apparently!)

Ah, sorry, misunderstood your joint account concern!

All of the settings were set to on if that makes sense, on both MacBooks and iPhones.

I tried turning them all off and back on again, and its literally just his phone that we can't view any photos on!

If you have different ID's his phone won't share photos with you and vice-versa. The only photos of each other's you should see are those that either of you put into the family album.

As for having more photos taking less space, then it sounds as though one has optimisation on and the other doesn't.
