Auto pause - resume fail

I'm noticing when using my Nike ap while running that sometimes the auto pause gets stuck and doesn't resume. This fail sadly happened during a marathon and I missed tracking 4 miles. I actually didn't know it had paused until I heard activity resumed. It showed mile 17 and I was already at mile 21! How can I avoid this issue in the future?
