Trying to remove "Important" folder, Gmail --> Mail

I've been trying to remove my "Important" folder that Gmail automatically sets up, but none of the tutorials I've been able to find are any help. They all say to disable the "show in IMAP" option in the Label settings in Gmail, but I don't have such an option. I have "Show" and "Hide," and "Hide" is selected. Yet it still shows up in my Mail. It's not the end of the world; it just takes up space and I never use it because the emails that automatically get put in it are pretty randomly selected and usually not the actually important ones. Can anybody suggest another way for me to get rid of this folder? Thanks!

I checked my IMAP settings, and I had IMAP disabled. I guess I configured my Mac Mail program through some other means. Strange! Well it is all fixed now; enabling IMAP gave me that "show in IMAP" option and I was able to turn it off.

By showing up in Mail, are you referring to you macOS Mail app?

FWIW. I just reviewed my Gmail email account by accessing it via a web browser. In the image below, I do not have either the "Starred" or "Important" labels enabled to be shown in IMAP. Neither appear in my Mail app on my Mac mini running macOS Sierra.

I imagine you would have to login in to your gmail account via google and remove or disable the important folder from there and not within Macs mail.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I am referring to macOS Mail. And that is really interesting; I don't have those "Show in IMAP" options in mine. I wonder if there is some other setting that I need to revise so that they will show up.

IMAP is one protocol used to retrieve email messages. POP3 is the other. Some email account, including Google, allow for either protocol to be the default and would require you to make the change through their email account administration interface. Looks like you did that. Great job!
