Bootcamp-Windows 7 partition size

Hi everybody,

I am going to install Bootcamp and Windows 7 Pro on my Macbook Pro 13.3 SG/3.1GHZ/8GB/512GB. Which is the best partition size to give to Bootcamp? I know this question has been asked before, but people mostly asked what was the minimum space to allocate to Windows. I am going to use exclusively Windows, so what is the maximum size for it out of 512GB? And minimum space for OS, only that it stays stable and functional.

If your IT person wants to use Bootcamp, it is not supported.

See Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support for reference.

There are no W7 drivers for the Apple hardware for any model after 2014. Also, W7 requires legacy BIOS. (U)EFI is too buggy on W7.

You can invite your IT 'person' to this discussion and ask him to participate. 😉

I suggest 256Gb or more for W7. If you have a 2015 or later Mac, W7 cannot be installed via Bootcamp on these Macs.

W10 is much better supported. macOS can run minimally in 32GB, but that is too little for everyday use. If you really want to use 400GB for W10, you can. W10 supports UEFI.

It is a pain to resize Windows on a Mac, so choose wisely.

Are you sure about later Macs? My is 2017, and I has been just told by another IT guy that it is possible...I don't want to use any virtual machines, I hate them.

And if I go for Windows 10, this should not be a problem, right? Can I give Bootcamp/Win 10 400GB or even more? What is the minimum for OS?
