Can I leave my lighting cable plugged all the time to my car's USB port?

Hi, I recently bought a car with a screen compatible with CarPlay, my questions are if there is any problem if I leave the lighting cable plugged in all the time, even when my car is off?

Does the cable consumes energy (as small as it could be) even when there's nothing connected to the other end?

Should I just leave it connected and with my iPhone plugged in only when my car is on?
