Did you tap on the words Apple TV at the top to get to the drop down menu where you select your Apple TV? I didn't notice that at first, couldn't figure out why it just kept spinning.
Hey Ryansteer,
I am sorry to hear you are having issues setting up your Remote App. After downloading iOS 11 you may need to reconnect your device to your Apple TV.
Thanks for the suggestion but in my case at the top of the widget is says 'Choose an Apple TV' and it is not clickable. Under the spinning wheel it says 'Searching...' and it sits there forever (well forever in computer years, minutes in human years).
What is your configuration? iPhone model and AppleTV generation.
regards

Looks like Apple updated the web page concerning Control Center and the Apple TV widget. When it was first published it did not mention the 4th gen requirement.
This really makes little sense considering that the Apple TV Remote app still works with 3rd gen Apple TVs. You would think that the widget was just a front end to the app and not a complete rewrite. This sort of thing makes maintenance of the software a nightmare. Not something you would think Apple (at least the Apple of yore) would do.
Having this issue too. iPhone 6s 3rd gen Apple TV. The remote app works and the screen mirroring widget in control center sees the Apple TV but the remote widget just spins never finding the Apple TV.
Found some forums where this was reported going back during beta testing. Would be nice if Apple would at least say if this is suppose to work or not.
I can’t think for a second why the model of phone or Apple TV should dictate whether the widget could work or not seeing as there are no issues with the dedicated app. I have a horrible feeling though that Apple have dealt a low blow and limited compatibility to only the most recent Apple TV which, to put it bluntly, *****.
Would be great to hear if anyone gets it working or if there’s any news from Apple.
I'm always cautious about updating apps like Remote for this very reason.
It may be a glitch in iOS 11 or they've ditched control of ATV2 and ATV3 which would be annoying.

Thanks for the reply Harrison. The AppleTV app works, screen mirroring works, just the app in Control Centre. Not the end of the world but was looking forward to this new iOS 11 feature 😕
iPhone 7 Plus, ATV 4. I suspect that the iPhone model won't make any difference. The ATV model could possibly make a difference.
You're probably correct that the iPhone model won't matter, most likely in the Apple TV. Thanks for the info
