ios 11 update phone freezing

Hi, I updated to ios 11 on my 64GB iPhone 6s without any issues. But since doing so my phone has stopped working 3 times. The problem is that the phone freezes and I can't press any apps or open app switcher, it's just dead. I have to do a force restart to get back up running again.

iPhone 6s, iOS 11

It looks like I might have a solution. I think it is a problem with Location Services. I noticed the problem was happening with apps which accessed location frequently, so I tried settings>General>Reset Location & Privacy Settings. Since doing so I haven’t had a freeze in 24hrs. You re-authorise apps as and when. I don’t think it’s one particular app that causes the issue, just when lots of apps access the location services. Let me know if it works for you

Connect the phone to iTunes, back it up, then restore iOS using iTunes.

What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

One that frequently helps after an update is to kill all processes, then restart the phone. This is non-destructive; it will eliminate the possibility that there is a "stuck" app.

  • Double-press the HOME button to display the quick-launch screen
  • Swipe up on each screen image to kill each app
  • When there is nothing left except the Home screen image, double-press the home button
  • Hold the SLEEP button until "Slide to power off" appears, and do so
  • Wait about 1 minute, then restart the phone by holding the SLEEP button until an Apple logo appears.

Hey i had this problem for the last week, i tried reset & restore but still my iPhone froze. then i noticed a thin white line sometimes appeared at the top of the screen during the freeze. I removed my otter protective case and my iPhone is now all ok - maybe this update ios11 makes changes to the edge of the screen and the case was causing it to freeze.

anyway give it a go. XTEZ

Apple has released iOS 11.0.2 a few hours back.

Release notes are not mentioning anything related to issues we are facing, however, after installing it on my iPhone SE 64 GB, it feels smooth and stable.

- I have not seen any crash yet.

- Music widget on the lock screen came back and working fine.

- Volume buttons are responding.

- I am using same apps that I was using on iOS 10.3.3 and not seeing any issues so far.

- I have not seen iPhone freezing yet after the update.

- Spotify does not stop suddenly the way it used to with iOS 11.0.1

- Have not checked or monitored battery performance yet.

- I have not done any reboot yet.

Will be observing over coming few days, but looks like iOS 11.0.2 is fixing a lot of things under the hood.

OK, I tried Tox Rowlang's recommendation to reset Location & Privacy Settings. I can now confirm that I have not had my device freeze since then (48 hours +).

The Music app is still bugged on the lockscreen sometimes, and I've had some problems with Siri not responding; but I guess these are separate bugs, and not ominous signs of an impending freeze.

Give it a try, everyone!

I am facing the same issue with iphone 6s . Please check your logs from "Settings -> Privacy ->Analytics -> Analytics data" . Check logs starting with "force reset" in it. I have 4 logs and all of them have " Calendar : 0x59**** Panicked task " within the initial 30 lines

I hardly have 15 apps on my device with no social n/w apps except for whatsapp, facetime and iMessage . Apple default Calendar app might be having memory leakage issue

This is how I fixed all my issues - freezing, crashing, black screen, unable to be heard on calls etc

- Tried to downgrade to 10.3.3, this kind of worked but all my downloaded apps had a missing-icon icon and didn't open. I tried to fix this and rebooted 2x. On second boot the phone wouldn't turn on - stuck on apple logo.

- Went into recovery mode with USB plugged in. iTunes informed me I needed to "update to 10.2.x". Tried updating, said something like "declined to update this image on this device"

- Updated iTunes from 12.5 to 12.7 and made 1 last attempt to recover phone. This time it prompted to update to 11.1. It worked! Booted up but I still had to manually delete all the missing apps and re-install from Store.

Since doing that I haven't had any issues (so far anyway). Everything is running smoothly now without the massive mem leaks 👌

tl;dr if Factory Reset does the same thing then try that. Otherwise go into DFU mode and do it through iTunes. Another user said he tried this but it started to go wrong again, so only more time will tell but looks good so far.
