iOS 11 on iPad Air 2 - slow animation

Hi. I noticed animations on the iPad are slower than before. Its not about time, but I can see sth like short shots when I open control center while using some application. Anyone noticed sth like that or sth is wrong with my device?

iPad issues ARE NOT related to the iPhone slowdown due to battery degradation/iOS 11 CPU slowdown code issues.

Batteries in iPhones are MUCH smaller and have a lesser charge/discharge life than one's in an iPad.

Your iPad Air 2 issues are totally unrelated to the recent older iPhone slowdown announcement!

And to date, YOU are STILL one of the very tiny minority of iPad Air 1/2 users still complaining of iOS 11 slowdown issues.

Why don't you simply backup your iPad, wipe it, set it up as a new device and try running it with just the base installed apps for a day or two to see if your iPad Air 2 returns to normal performance.

If it does, THAT means one or more of your installed apps is corrupt or the data within apps is corrupt causing all of your iPad Air 2 issues.

The ONLY way to remove ANY data corruption from an iDevices is to reinstall All of your 3rd party apps, one by one, then test that your iPad Air 2 is still running fine, then reinstall the next app and so on and so forth.

The iPad Air 2, the new iPad 2017 (iPad 5), the 9.7 inch iPad Pro AND the 4th gen iPad Mini all have 2 GBs of RAM installed and all of these share similarly aged (1 to 2 generations old) CPUs.

There have been little to no postings for many of these models running iOS 11.

So, clearly, something bad is going on with your iPad that has very little to do with iOS 11!

There have not been many users posting issues with their iPad Air 2 models in these official Apple technical support communities.

Only a very small minority reporting in here.

How much free data storage space is left on your iPad Air 2?

Have you tried a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?

Turn on Reduce Motion in Settings app, General, AccessIbility or live with the slow animations for now.

If you turn ON Reduce Motion, the issue goes away.

iOS runs better without the iOS motion graphics “eye candy”.

Your choice.

Apple stopped signing on iOS 10 over a month, ago.

iOS 10 is not returning.,

Apple is not going to refund your iPad, either.

Good Luck to You!

No planned obsolescence!

That pushed around statement, that is all over the Internet, is a myth!

Myth and fabrication.

Perpetuated by a lot of people online who know next to nothing about what they talk about, when it comes to Apple products.

Funny.

My two only iOS devices, a 1st gen iPad Pro and iPod Touch 6th gen are both running with NO issues on the latest version of iOS 11.

One more thing to try.

In Settings app, under General, Reset, try the Reset ALL Settings.

That has worked for a dozen or so iPad Air 1/2 users who have reported here.

That is why I am still using iOS 9.3.5 on my iPad Air and iPad Air 2, which are both still working beautifully. I was warned about upgrading to iOS 11 on Air and Air 2. A friend upgraded his iPad Air 2 to iOS 11, and, although everything worked, there was definitely a slowing down of some apps, default and third party, particularly those running video. Maybe iOS 11 is expecting a more powerful CPU and/or more RAM than those in iPad Air and Air 2.

I agree, Apple should allow users with older iPads to install/reinstall older iOS versions.

The iPad Air 2 is far more powerful than the 1st gen iPad Air.

iPad Air 2 and the iPad Mini 4, which are functionally identical, should run iOS 10 or 11 just fine.

Make sure any iDevice has sufficient free data storage space (at a minimum, at least 3-4 GBs).

If you use iTunes on a computer, do upgrades/updates through iTunes on a computer instead of using iOS’s over the air Wifi software update method.

Good Luck to You!

iOS turns thIs ON by default.

Try turning this OFF!

Background app refresh being active all the time means background apps that get their content from the Internet will CONSTANTLY go out to the Internet to update this content, potentially slowing down/negatively impacting iPad performance.

My initial reply wasn't even to you!

So, check your attitude when you reply to someone who is trying to help you.

BTW,

Your iPad Air 2 issues are atypical.

No one else is reporting in these forums, en masse, with major performance and animation issues with their iPad Air models under iOS 11.

Ahah, because you still think the issue was Apple doing that for saving owners batteries ? ^^ Seriously, it's done on specific purpose : Force users to change their devices.

I've already wiped my iPad Air 2 and reinstalled... only one app ! You know why ? Because it's a development machine and nothing is installed on it. And you know what ? it's still slow as **** ! ios11 is clearly culprit

Still lag when throwing up control center and multitasking UI with 4 finger swipe even reduce motion is on. Clean install and hard reset already done.

This is without reduce motion

I saw some owner of iPad Air 2 sharing the same story

I did clean install iOS 11.1 without restoring anything. Even with the latest iOS 11.1.1, the lags are still there at the first attempt of closing app by five fingers and swiping home screen. More noticeable when you close apps that draw a lot cpu and graphics power. Never lag with app like twitter, messages or mail. Again iOS 11.1 is a lot smoother than 11.0.3. The lags are pretty much negligible

I like my iPads to perform as fast as possible and turn off all of the motion graphics eye csndy.

If these motion graphics animations are an issue, now, in iOS 11, in the Settings app, General panel and in the right column under Accesibility, turn ON Reduced Motion

Your iPad will run better without all of this graphics animations sucking up additional computing resources.

Good Luck to You!
