Question

How do you select one picture from video in Photo?

I seem to have a problem just taking a photo - half the time I take a 1 or 2 second video instead. After transferring from iPhone to my Mac, how do I select the best one of the series of photos in a video to export and print?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

That is called a live photo ( https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207310) and is a short video with a single full resolution photo - you set live photos on or off on your phone - when you export the photo for use you get the full resolution image - if you want a lower resolution image form the video portion the instructions are in this user tip - How to Extract Still Frames from a Live Photo in Photos for Mac

If you really took a video instead of photo and not a Live Photo, you can export a still frame from the video in Photos for Mac.

Open the video in Photos, and then use the video controls to find the frame you want to save as a still frame.
Now click the actions menu (the gear shaped icon) and select "Export frame to Pictures".
This will save the selected frame from the video to the Pictures folder.
Import this image from the Pictures folder to Photos.
