iOS 11 can't connected to unsecured network??

I cannot connected to my university network since I update my iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Pro to iOS11. I had question that the reason is due to this network is "unsecured network" same as starbuck wifi.

Someone encounter with the same problem?? It useful to level up security on my iOS device but some of my work can done with this wifi only.

At least it should had the function that user can choose by them-self to reject these "unsecured network"??

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 11

So I used a variation of the suggested fix (it didn't work for me) and this has worked with my offices Aruba network hardware for multiple iOS 11 people.

1) For your unsecured wifi connection, add an invalid DNS server IP (I used 192.1.1.1)

2) Try to Connect/Join

3) While it is trying to connect, click on the connection to view the details (probably not required but I did this)

4) Go to your browser and try to load http://www.apple.com

5) This might take 20-30 seconds, but eventually the wifi icon connection will show up.

6) Remove the invalid DNS entry.

You haven't said what kind of network you are trying to connect to or what happens when you try. That makes it very difficult to help you. In general:

  • Go to Settings/Wi-Fi and turn off "ask to join networks" - it just complicates things.
  • If it is an unsecured network that does not require logging in it should just connect. You should not have to enter any information at all. If it doesn't connect go to Settings/Wi-Fi and tap on the i next to the network name, then tap "forget this network" and try to connect again.
  • If it requires login (e.g., xfinity, cablevision, etc) when you connect after a short while (15-30 seconds) it should display the login page. If it doesn't, forget the network as explained above, then try again. You may have to do this each time you connect, depending on
  • You should ignore the configure IP and configure DNS; these should be filled in by the network automatically. If you try to override them most likely it won't work at all.

I found a solution!! All my devices were affected (iPAD, iPhone 7 plus, MacBook pro). Try the following non-elegant workaround:

Go to "Configure DNS" within the network you are trying to connect to--> Switch to "Manual" and add an IP address--> Attempt login (which will fail however the wirless wifi remains open)--> Go back to your network settings and delete the "Manual" IP address you inputed--> reattempt to open a website which should redirect to the login/network accept page.

This worked on all my devices. Good luck!

*** Solution for IT Admins ***

Dear IT Admins

Setting the DNS manually as a trick to this issue is working fine but unfortunately engages the users and they have to do this every time they reconnects to a free WiFi.

So you can easily add the URL "http://captive.apple.com/hotspot-detect.html" in your web proxy or firewall exception list.

I mean you should be able connect to this URL without authenticate in your organizastion.

After that your problem for all versions of IOS 11.x.x will be gone permanently.

It should still connect to the network, but warn you that it is not secure. If it doesn't there's a different issue. I was in an Apple store recently, and got an security warning when connecting to the Apple store WiFi.

Same problem here on iPad Pro and iPhone 6. The public and guest networks where I work normally open a browser window where you agree to terms and conditions etc. Since iOS 11, the WiFi network connects normally then the connection drops a couple of seconds later. You can't force a browser window as the connection is gone by then.

I have moved everything back to 10.3.3 for now. What a disaster 11 has been so-far. WiFi issues, no voicemail, drained battery and frequent freezes.

I FINALLY HAVE A SOLUTION.

At least a solution that worked for ME. I spent two nights researching all over the internet and getting deep into the settings on my phone so I could load the Guest WiFi login page at my job and finally be able to use the Wi-Fi.

I kept getting the “unsecure network” page and couldn’t navigate through it. Nothing seemed to work. What worked for me?

FIRST, click the “i” next to the Wi-Fi network you’re trying to login to, and be sure both “Auto-Join” and “Auto-Login” are toggled OFF. Now, for the solution.

DOWNLOAD THE FIREFOX BROWSER. This browser, unlike Safari, allows you to to push through the security warning and visit the page anyway. Type in the address for the Wi-Fi login page or simply type in “captive.apple.com” into the search bar. You’ll get the same type of page as Safari, saying how it is an unsecure network. But unlike Safari, you’re able to click “visit site anyway”. And that’ll take you to the normal site where you can login to the Wi-Fi network.

It worked for me, I hope it works for all of you!

I am having the same problem as, I usad to acess my work unsecured WIFI than an auto login page will appear in safari. But since I update my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS11 I can't. In fact, when there was a new update i thots that they solved the problem so i update my iPhone to iSO 11.01 but noting new. I did every thing I even tried to do it manual but it dose not work as well. we really need solution for this problem. I think users should have to choose if they want to contact to the unsecured network or not. I think i will go back to 10.3.3 it have less problems

I'm having this same problem - just upgraded my iPad to iOS11 and went on a United flight...It kept saying "No Internet Connection" from the wifi screen and then I couldn't get the united wifi.com page to load because it said there was not available internet connection.

My wife's iPad, right next to me, could connect just fine so I know it wasn't the united wifi that was the problem. It's like it saw the network but refused to let me go through the authentication page.

Really frustrating.
