there has been plenty of complaints on this forum about the lack of time zones, both on the iPod Nano and Video iPod. This problem has been around since the Video iPod was introduced and there is no solution in sight. Twice in 12 months I've fired off a feedback note to Apple and am about to again, because nothing is happening.
this time I have done some research, with the following results.
All the current time zones on the iPod are UTC + n hours, including the DST options. only whole hours are selectable. I think there are 50 time zone options, most double up with a DST option. for example US Pacific (DST) [aka PDT] and US Mountain [aka MST] are both UTC -7:00hrs. I'm not sure if they change at the same time, but why do we need both ? does the iPod automatically change to DST at the right time ?
about 19% of the worlds population live in a time zone that is not supported by the iPod. I think this would interest Steve Jobs very much, as he's a marketing guy.
the following countries/states need to be added to fix the iPod zones:
Newfoundland (NST) -3:30
Newfoundland (NDT/HAT) -2:30
Iran +3:30
Afghanistan +4:30
India (IST) +5:30
Nepal +5:45
Yangon (Rangoon) +6:30
Western Central (WCT) +8:45 unofficial
Australia Central (ACST) +9:30
Australia Central (ACDT) +10:30
Norfolk Island (NFT) +11:30
there may be others, but this is most of the ones I could find so far. if anyone has any corrections or more to add, please post them here as I intend to send my next suggestion to Apple by snail mail. attn: Mr Steve Jobs.
I want Apple to fix this problem before it becomes part of the new iPhone too, because I use my phone as an alarm, and the iPhone will not stay on my wish list if it has this bug.
