ios 11 - how to not automatically unlock with home button

Prior to ios 11 I could hit the home button once and wake up the screen, see and interact with my notifications, all without automatically unlocking my phone. This is something that people did NOT want previously and there were workarounds to prevent it.

But it's gone in ios 11 now. I turned off "rest finger to unlock" like last time, but can't figure out any other way to prevent that from happening.
