Are there free Numbers templates for saving passwords?

I just upgraded my iPhone to IOS11. The results was that several apps were not compatible and do not work. No biggie. That's usually part of the process. Hopefully, the developers will respond with updates.

But one very important one apparently won't be updated and fixed. I've enjoyed using an app called 'Passwords' for years. It remains on the phone, doesn't go out to some unknown 'cloud', and I prefer it that way. But, now the developer is MIA, the App Store says that they no longer carry that app. I can't even access the app to find contact info for the developer. I understand; people move forward with their lives, and if a small developer creates a simple app, s/he can't be expected to update it for decades (the way a large company might).

So, what I'm going to do is use an Apple Numbers spreadsheet with the important sites/names/passwords, and store it on the phone and/or on Dropbox and iCloud. I know that there are a lot of free templates out there for nearly everything. I'm wondering if anyone in this support community can direct me to one that specifically handles passwords. (If not, I can make my own)

Thanks in advance

Yes! I'm saying that it is NOT secure to store passwords in Numbers! Numbers is designed for other things. I strongly urge using a dedicated app with proper security features.

You might start researching here. Note that you already have Keychain and Keychain for iCloud if you don't want to use third-party solutions.

Whatever you decide, highly recommend you do NOT put the digital keys to your life in a Numbers document.

Putting passwords in a Numbers document is NOT a secure way to store them!

Highly recommend switching to anther dedicated password manager with encryption and other security features. You can find many in the App Store, including 1Password.

Note also that Safari/Keychain Access stores passwords in a far more secure manner than Numbers.

As you research this I think you’ll find password protection is not at all the same as proper encryption. Again, strongly advise DON’T put your passwords in a spreadsheet document even if it is password protected. Spreadsheet documents are notoriously easy to hack. Use the much better tools Apple and third parties have developed.

I've now had two 'dedicated password apps 'go out of business' (so to speak). And as far as paying an annual fee, just for the privilege of accessing my websites passwords is ridiculous. (of course I never thought I'd one day have to pay for drinking water or putting air in my tires. So the surprise is minimal)

OK, thanks. I really appreciate you taking the time to help.

Actually, I hadn't even thought of Keychain. Not really sure how to use it. I've opened it several times, but didn't quite have a clear understanding of how to use it. But, now I've opened it, noodled around on my Mac, and I think this is the answer. However, I can't seem to locate it on iCloud with my phone. When I put iCloud.com in Safari, it tells me to set it up on my device and instructs me how to do it. When I go into settings, it tells me it is already set up. Now, with IOS 11, it has a dedicated 'Files' button that takes you to either your iCloud drive, or other 3rd market drives like Dropbox. But I can't seem to locate Keychain. I have even used the search bar with no results. It's probably something right in front of me, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'll keep trying until I do.

So again, thank you so much for your help. I don't think I ever would have thought of this.

Oh, that's helpful. Thanks, Wayne.

I'm trying to figure out accessing keychain on iCloud on my phone, but so far, am able to do so. But this is helpful too.

I'm trying to stay native to Apple if I can, and since I cant even access the now obsolete version of my current password manager, to try and export the data in CSV format, I was reminded that all of my passwords are currently stored on Apple's Keychain app. So at least I can still access them now. Man, what a lifesaver. I was kicking myself for updating the phone so quickly without checking what I might lose. Hard lesson...

I'll keep you both posted how it goes. But I'm very grateful for the help you guys have taken the time to give me.

Yes, I read that, thank you. I was just thinking that I could access it and open it (the way you do in OS X). Not a game-changer, but it would have been nice to be able to do that on the phone, too. But You definitely saved my bacon, (not to mention my wife's, who was clearly unhappy last night). So thanks again.

Well, i guess I'm definitely going to go the cautious route, and stick with Keychain. I'm just having trouble accessing it on the phone/iCloud. It's such a creepy world out there. I can't believe the lengths folks will go to, in order to steal. But if you feel this strongly that Numbers (even password protected) isn't secure enough, I will take it as advice I should follow.

Thanks
