Imac model A1224 will boot in safe mode but not in normal mode goes to blue with mouse pointer

Imac will boot in safe mode, but not in normal mode, screen goes dark blue with mouse pointer in upper left corner and thats it. Reset pram, new hard drive with os 10 that I know works, ran hardware diagnostics OK, unplugged and held power button 10 seconds and took memory sticks out one at a time no luck

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Your problem is very simple, the computer does not have enough RAM to run the version of Mac OS installed. Your 2008 iMac can accommodate 6GB of RAM, however it only has 2GB installed. Contact OWC (www.macsales.com) or Crucial and buy a 6GB kit. iMacs are VERY sensitive to quality RAM and both vendors provide quality products at reasonable prices. Here is the link to the OWC RAM:

Your iMac also appears to have no backup. Operating ANY computer without a backup is foolish and will result in lost data including photos, music, movies, and other valuable documents. There is NO reason not be using Time Machine to back up the computer. All that is required is an external HD. Thanks for the info, but it actually was running OS 10.5 and ran well up untill a week ago, the only reason I had 10.11.6 on it was I took out the original hard drive because the machine scan would not run on the original disk with OS 10.5 and I could not upgrade the machine. The problem was the same and at one point it wouldn't boot in safe mode as it wouldn't accept the userid or password from the original 10.5 .8 so I loaded a fresh copy 10.11 on it with nothing added and added a 2 gig memory stick to give it 3 gig but nothing only safe mode.
