I can see that there is an offset option in the inspector panel, but it does not work the way I need it to. I need timecode to be zero at 9 seconds in. That is, zero on the beep on 2. If I offset 9 seconds, it makes the timecode 18 at that point, so clearly I need to offset it -9 seconds, but it does not accept a negative so I can't get it to do what I want. There must be a way (he says, hopefully).

I think I have a work around. If I add just under ten hours to the timecode, then it can hit zero, plus ten hours, at whatever point I want. I just deduct from 10 hours. So if I want the zero at 10 seconds in, I make the offset 9 hours, 59 minutes and 50 seconds and then when I get to the 10 second mark, it will be 10:00:00:00, so then you just ignore the ten hour part. The rest is set to zero.
You can't delete a post, you can edit it.

Right click the Project icon in the Browser then use the Inspector to Modify Settings.

I'm using the Timecode Generator, so it's a clip on it's own which is overlaid on the entire project. It has an inspector window panel which allows you to choose the size and font colour and it has an option called "offset", but it doesn't work the way I am wanting as in my original question. It allows you to add more time so that zero starts at say, 10 seconds, but not to make the 10 second mark zero.

Try setting the start time to 23:59:51:00 or something like that depending on the frame counting method.

What timecode do you want to offset? A clip? You can’t in FCP.
