I have a macbook pro, an iPad, and an iPhone. First, I checked both the iPad and the MacBook to verify that it was the phone that wasn't working correctly. Since instant hotspot didn't appear on either the laptop or the iPad, it made sense that the phone was the device at fault. I simply signed out of icloud completely on the iPhone and signed back in, and the instant hotspot feature began working again as intended.

After updating to iOS 11.0.1 and macOS High Sierra, and restarting both my iPhone and MacBook, my iPhone now shows up under my WiFi for Instant Hotspot. Also just to clarify, Instant Hotspot (which is labeled as Personal Hotspot under Mac WiFi) will only show up on you Mac if you are signed into the same iCloud account on both devices. You do not have to have Personal Hotspot toggled On in your iPhone Settings. It makes it more convenient tether your iPhone from your Mac without having to type in a password.
Sign-out iCloud account from Mac and then sign back in. I tried and it works. Thanks
Try connecting from your laptop--it should fail.
If it does just delete it as a connection on your laptop.
There have been a lot of complaints from people who were unhappy that another device could enable an iPhone's personal hotspot without the user's knowledge or permission. Perhaps Apple has heard them.
I have the opposite issue - as far as I am aware, since updating to iOS 11 last week, my phone now shows up as a hotspot in my laptop's WIFI, although hotspot is switched off on my phone. Just restarted, but still showing.
Anyone else has this issue?

It will only appear on an Apple device that is logged in to your iCloud account. It won't appear on anyone else's computer. And if you are concerned about the name, just change it. Go to Settings/General/About and you can change the phone's name to anything you want.
I don't really feel that losing all of one's Apple Pay data is worth the cost of resolving an issue that shouldn't be an issue.

It fails, but is nevertheless visible as an option.
My issue is that I don't want to be seen as a possible hotspot. After all the phone shows my name. The phone is not physically connect to the laptop btw.
