Disk utility image of high sierra

Now I installed macOS High Sierra 10.13 GM candidate, and it works OK in my operational environment.

However I have a problem that I can not image the APFS system disk using Disk utilitu image function.

Usually I backuped the system disk using another macOS installed on the external disk or USB stick. When I backup the system, and switch to external macOS. Then I use Disk utility and backup the main system using image function (until macOS sierra).

But in case of High sierra, the above way became unavailable. As the previous system, I made the external High sierra (disk, USB), and switched to the external system. But by the Disk utility, the main High sierra (APFS) disk looks like as follows;

Disk device

(container) <--- can image

(partition) <--- can not image

As attached snapshots, I can not image partition (image button is grayed out), but I can select the container .

I tried to image the container, but the operation failed as atteched snapshots.

I can not understand why this method (I used this method since my first mac!) become unavailable!

1) partition can nbe imaged.

User uploaded file

2) container can be imaged

User uploaded file

3)image failed

User uploaded file

Please tell me how to backup the system using the above method or other method (time machine or utilities on market or free).

Any fixes since that time? I'm using 10.13.2 and got same problem.

However, I was able to create HighSierra.dmg image of my macOS High Sierra volume.

Just unmount volume before creating backup and then you can select container and do a backup, so use command:

"File -> New Image -> Image from Container Disk.."

Looks really AWKWARD.

BUT, after a backup successfully created, I rebooted and tried to open it just by double click as usually. Got error:

User uploaded file

Also, tried to open it in Disk Utility but it's just doing nothing...

File -> Open Disk Image -> HighSierra.dmg

---

No error message. No added and\or mounted partitions. Nothing. AWKWARD again. Why you killed Disk Utility?

In old Disk Utility I always and for many years was able to create a backup - .dmg file of my system.

And later even mount it in Finder for checking old files maybe or just to make sure that it works.

Now, I even don't want to try to revert my system with this backup. Will it work or not? I don't know.
