Change Country and you loose all past purchases!
Having the iTunes ID tied to a region is so outdated and reminds you on the DVD Region Codes. We live in a globally connected world, and Apple is still restricting users to 20th century national borders. What the heck!!!!
Historically I have a US iTunes account having lived there when the account was opened. Over the years I purchased many movies, apps and music. Even now I prefer to purchase original English language movies.
With the recent relocation to Europe, I am stuck with my US account. Switching the country would not allow me to re-download any previously purchased movie, app or music. If I loose my local copy, a couple thousand dollars worth of content vanish into thin air. With apps I cannot even get free updates anymore and would have to re-purchase them. And forget any running subscriptions. That is insane.
Not having a local iTunes account is not an option either. Many iOS apps are region specific. For example I cannot download the local public transportation app from the US store. I cannot watch local movies as they are only available in the local store.
To make things worse, we also have family ties to Mexico and travel the country frequently. Still no access to local content. No access to many iOS apps, no access to original Spanish language content.
The artificial restriction to national borders must stop. That is not the world we live in, and discriminates millions of people with a multi heritage background. It forces international families to subscribe to a single country, restricting local access and cutting cultural ties.
