GarageBand crashes in iOS 11

GarageBand crashes after the iOS 11 update on my iPad Pro as well on my iPhone 5s! In some discussions people suggest to disable iCloud Drive for GarageBand in order to use it... and indeed it works for starting a new song from scratch.

BUT: if I want to open one of my existing projects (I keep them all in iCloud Drive), GarageBand crashes...

I tried different ways to fix it:

- by reinstalling GarageBand

- by restarting the iPad or iPhone

- by reinstalling the entire iPad and iPhone

I also considered to downgrade to iOS 10, but I don’t have reserve backup copies in iOS 10, so I would lose to many data...

End of story so far...

It’s a disaster, because I need my GarageBand projects for a festival, I have to be sure I will be able to use them and my subscription deadline is next Wednesday!

GarageBand iOS 11 update problem. It seems that all the songs were removed from GarageBand on iPhone and iPad during upgrade to iOS 11 but they are still saved on iCloud.

You can see them in Locations using the new Files app that’s appeared since the upgrade.

I’ve managed to get the songs back by turning off iCloud in settings and opening Gagageband app. Eventually they come back but you’ll need to download them again to your device.

Good luck.

Ericjanvandamme, I had the same issue as soon as i upgraded to iOS 11. I temporarily fixed it by completely restoring my iPad via iTunes back to factory settings. I set up as new then enabled ICloud. It took forever to redownload all of my music but I got it to work. I was then able to restore from my backup to get my other data back. All seemed fine until I tried to download multiple songs from iCloud to my iPad and decided to play one already downloaded...that’s when it crashed and I could not get it to reopen until I disabled GarageBand ICloud sync. I don‘t have access to the GB iCloud content or the ability to sync new songs to it because whenever I turn GB iCloud sync on it crashes upon opening. I really don’t want to restore via iTunes, that was brutal - taking a few hours then additional hours restoring everything from backup.

We need a fix for this mess!

If GarageBand for iOS is crashing on launch try turning off iCloud. Archive your projects from iCloud Drive to an offline folder on a computer, then remove them from iCloud, turn iCloud back on in GarageBand which should now open normally, then add the projects back one at a time.

Hello ifroed

I sympathise with you it’s now over 3 weeks that I have not been able to use my iPad . I have been speaking with Apple in this time and they to date have not resolved the issue .they are reluctant to blame IOS11 ,in the 3weeks I would have spent over 6 hours on the phone with their support team ,checking cables, software, resetting the whole iPad to factory and so on. They claim that my case is an isolated case and they will fix eventually. Even though I know that there are hundreds if not thousands of people affected from this IOS11 update. Also the update has killed the Bluetooth on the iPad. I urge you to contact Apple and file a complaint with their support team and if they tell you that they have not herd of your problem ,I can give you my case number. If enough people complain they might act quicker to fix the issue .

I use garage band and playground sessions since the iOS 11.00 upgrade it has rendered any app which use midi useless .every time I hit a note the note keeps repeating like a constant loop. I have tried turning off iCloud Drive with no success ,Apple just released iOS 11.03 ,installed it last night and no fix still useless. This is really frustrating . Apple allow people to roll back to iOS 10.03 until you fix all the bugs in ios11

I have this Problem too. I use GarageBand for recording guitars. When i exit the guitar-effect-page in GarageBand, GarageBand crashes. Therefor this issue renders my iPad and its malfunctioning software useless for Music-Projects. Further: Turning of iCloud does not fix this problem.

Due to an urgent project I am desperately needing a solution to use GarageBand. Or an alternative. Any suggestions for both?

Thank you you in advance!
