iOS 11 Alarm volume

I updated my iPhone 6s to iOS 11 and the clock app's alarm works, but the volume for the tone is no longer loud enough to wake me. Prior to iOS 11, the side buttons controlled the alarm tone volume, but this no longer appears to be the case. INFURIATING to be late getting up for work because the alarm isn't loud enough to be heard from deeper sleep. I have tried adjusting the volume with the General Settings > Sounds > Ring Tone & Alert slider - no luck. How do we control the alarm tone volume with iOS 11?

Hi, I had the opposite. My alarm was so loud even with the ringer on low using the side button and also on low in the alarm menu. I went to settings, sounds and turned on change with buttons, now the ringer is perfect and I can conitrile it like I did previously. I think if you do the opposite, you will get you alarm to go higher, so you will turn off Change with Buttons. Hope this helps.

Nicholas is right about the ‘Sound and Haptics’ option in settings but you don’t have to constantly come back here to alter your sound volume for your ringer and alarms etc by using the slider as you can just flip the switch underneath it to switch control back to your side buttons again. That way you can easily control the volume of your alarms and ringer as and when you want.

Hi Drdasmith,

I just checked my phone.

If you choose "Settings", I have these options showing:

Aeroplane Mode

:

:

Service Provider

Then...

Notifications

Control Center

Do Not Disturb

Then....

General

Display & Brightness

Wallpaper

SOUNDS & HAPTICS

I assume you have it too...but if not, not sure what else to recommend.

If you do have it, click on this option and then you will see a slide volume for "Ringers and Alerts". I found this to be at the lowest point, hence the alarm issue. I moved it louder and it rectified my alarm permanently.

I hope this helps. If not, I am afraid, not sure what else to recommend. I know how frustrating this is/was!

Good luck!

Nick

Had same issue, what is interesting when you set an alarm, then switch the phone in black screen wait for the alarm to sound its loud, as soon as you pick up the phone it softens. So when I hold my phone in my hands set the alarm and wait for it to sound its way too soft. So seems like apple has made the phone smarter by telling it to soften the alarm as soon as you grab the phone or when its on.

Try it out and see if it works....

I've had problems with my volume in general ever since the update! ****

The speaker phone setting isn't working EITHER! The alarms and timer won't get volume NO MATTER WHAT I DO!

When I adjust the slider in settings, THEN I GET VOLUME! I bet this has something to do with the stupid removal of the headphone jack.

Hi everyone! I am new to apple platform at all and been radiated fo years to give up android for getting completely new experience from my phone! I deeply appreciate all the work developers of apple products have done for our “users” comfort and they really ve done great. I live in eastern europe in a block of concrete cells with almost no sound insulation. My question is how can I wake only myself without neighbours and their dog since my alarm is so loud that even sitting my phone on the sofa with some clothes on top sounds quite loud? I really cant find an option to lower the volume down. I even tryed to be fast enough to use the sidekeys just a millisecond after choosing alarm tone and I am honest the sound display shows another volume while the alarmtone to be chosen sounds and after it plays the main volume scale appears instantly and even if I am fast enough to set the alarm tone to minimum it sounds again loud and clear to all my neighbours. Please let me choose the level when I adjust my alarm clock or in some other menu but make it adjustable! In settings I have only “SOUNDS” menu with single word label. Updated to latest IOS 11. Greetings to all!

Thank you! I found this setting on the second night of iOS 11. I enabled a setting to use buttons to control volume and maxed the slider bar in the sound settings, exited to my home screen and cranked the volume with the side buttons. The next morning, the alarm was still soft. I hard booted the phone again, deleted existing alarms, restart phone. Create alarm. The volume is now appropriate for the side button setting. I don’t know what magic happened with the change of settings and reboots, but it finally works. I am on the search for an old fashioned travel alarm clock prior to the next iOS update, tho.
