Removing Malwarebytes icon from my top menu

A while back, I was told by an apple tech support person to download malware bytes to clear up a problem. After the problem was resolved, I removed malwarebytes from my computer and where it was in the library. However, I cannot remove it from my top menu bar and every so often I get a message asking me to update it. Please tell me how I can get rid go the icon in the top menu bar for malwarebytes. This app seemed to be good for only a limited period without an upgrade and I really do not need it any more and do not want to pay for an upgrade. Thanks.

macOS Sierra (10.12.4), 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

I wonder why people insist to uninstall (the right way) when it's pretty obvious that the OP is already beyond that point.

If you have already deleted all the malwarebytes package files in your mac (& trash), you will also have to delete the malwarebytes plist files in:

1. Library > LaunchAgents
2. Library > LaunchDaemons

Restart mac. Delete the malwarebytes folder in:
1. Library > Application Support

Empty trash for good measure; just to be sure the demon was exorcised.

Restart mac. You should no longer see the icon of the uninstalled malwarebytes on your status bar.

You've apparently deleted the MalwareBytes application. So download the donation ware Find Any File and search for each of these items with the option Name contains malwarebytes.

Most of them are located where Spotlight can't search. You can drag them from the search results window to the Trash bin in the Dock. You might have to enter your Admin password on some of them.

What's wrong z0ltan? Your solution didn't help Maxeiner and several others, but the solution I posted did help several others. Plus, Marcellus needed clarification as to which solution worked because Marcellus can't see that Maxeiner's post was in reply to my solution.

My solution is the proper procedure for removing Malwarebytes for Mac. If you don't follow this procedure and you decide to manually delete the Malwarebytes app, it causes this issue to happen. This is a very common issue that has been happening for a long time As you can see in this forum post and in many others over the years, the solution I provided is the proper solution to follow because Malwarebytes has not changed their removal procedure though many versions over time.

You have to remember z0ltan, that the answers here are not just for the person who posted their issue. The answers are also here for those who read the post because they have the same issue. That is how a forum works. This is why you're supposed to search for similar issues before you post your own. The problem is that not everyone who comes here knows how forums work. Also, not every computer user wants to risk doing administrator level procedures that may cause their computer to become unusable. If they misunderstand the procedure or something goes wrong and they can't get online, how will you help them then? Will you take responsibility for the greater problem? Do you even know if they have a current backup prepared and the time and know-how to recover their computer if they misunderstand your instructions, or do you want everyone to risk losing their data? Do you want to make yourself and Apple look bad because you want to use a more complicated and risky procedure instead of a simpler more natural solution? Go ahead. Im fine helping people in much safer ways that they can easily share with others.

Thanks "tygb" and John Galt. I do not want the app malwarebytes. I installed it per a suggestion of an apple support staff to get rid of what she thought was malware. It didn't work and subsequently I found an on-line video with step by step instructions clearing out various folders and files that worked great. So after that I wanted to get rid of the malwarebytes app, since it only lasts for 30 days without an annual subscription, anyway. But as John Galt noted, sometimes it is far harder to get rid of an app then to download it. Again, thanks for all the help and suggestions. About the only thing I am getting now is a pop-up menu asking me to again install new and improved version of malwarebytes. See below. I have no idea of how to get rid of that pop-up (it is not in Safari), so I guess I will just live with it, declining the update opportunity, and keep following the suggestions of OT using yet a new app downloaded at OT's suggestion "Find Any File" to clear any file found containing the name "malwarebytes."
