Siri no longer opens safari and shows google search.

I used to pick up my phone, hold down home and say "google bicycles" and safari would automatically open and show me a google search that i could scroll through, click links, as well as be able to go back a page to the google search list if that link wasn't quite was i was looking for.

With iOS 11 that same voice command no longer opens a full google search list in safari, It only shows me the list on the siri search page and any link i click will then open safari. The obvious detriment is that i lose the search. If the link is not what i'm looking for I have to re-search again to try a different link.

Without doing anything other than unlocking my phone with my thumb and using my voice, how do i now pull up a google search in safari from a locked phone?

thanks

iPhone 7, iOS 11

i'm not sure if this was added in the last 48 hours or not but I sort of found a half decent solution. Half decent in that they have added an extra step for us to use Siri and Google search.

you can say do a DuckDuckGo search ...

and you will get a DuckDuckGo search open in Safari and you can scroll it and this is the result a normal person would expect. very useful. If you like DuckDuckGo.

likewise, the same will work if you say Bing.

and yes it used to work just like that for Google but we all know they have taken that away. For what reason nobody knows. dumb.

But I discovered if I do two quick up swipes on the useless black search results menu you will see a small link that says see google search results. Click that, and Safari will open the way it used to showing the google search results. Why they will not let us tell Siri to search Google and open the results in Safari is beyond me. Apple, why would you not at least let the system remain in place where if we specify a Google search, it opens in Safari showing the Google results. Exactly the same as you have left it for bing and DuckDuckGo.

I just signed up for this apple discussion forum to ask this question.

i google thousands of searches per day.

i have no problem with bing but it simply doesnt work as good.

can we get a verification that this has now been changed by apple?

for clarity, MY SEARCH ENGINE is set to GOOGLE by choice.

siri used to display results in safari.

now it displays results on a random black useless screen.

thank you.

horsedung. if apple is pulling functionalities to steer us in a certain direction as opposed to adding higher quality services that incent the user base to make the move themselves they can eat it.

I'm sorry but what about my work around is incorrect? Have you tried it? Does it not work for you?

You seem to be commenting on Apple policy (in vulgar language, I might add) about Apple's policies, something that is not permitted here. I was offering, though not a solution, at least an option.

Sorry Chief, I push back pretty hard against this Culture of the Offended that we live in. Your opinion of the definition of Vulgar does matter, about as much as mine does.

Thnx again for the link.

Apples moves to push the market towards thier inferior product rather than let the let the market choose the product is the most vulgar thing about my post imo. Have a great Sunday.

I try to live in a culture of civil discourse and general courtesy. I'm not sure why you assume I was offended, though. I would describe my feelings as disappointed.

Best of luck.
