My MacBook Pro stops playing videos when and in video ad comes up and cannot move past it

When I am watching tv shows/videos on websites like Comedy Central or Food Network my video playback stops when in video ads come up and I cannot move past it. Doesn't matter if I reload the page it returns to the same non-working ad. Happens with every website that has commercial ads embedded in their videos. Occurs with Chrome & Safari. Please Help, Thanks!
