how do I clear history on my MacBook air

I have always been able to clear the history on my MacBook Air. Ever since I did the latest IOS update, I am unable to do so. I click on history, click on select all, then click delete. It only clears some of the history. I then hit shift and highlight the remainder of the history and it will not delete it. Help!!
