Why does my iMessage show up as my email not my phone number?

Why is it that when I text someone on iMessage it shows up my email and not phone number?

Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime

Settings/Messages/Scroll down to Send & Receive make sure it has you # and not your email.
