Maxtor OneTouch Mini

Just purchased a Maxtor OneTouch III Mini 100GB for travel use. The Mini isn't offered in Mac version, but I figured that was just a s/w thing. Have previously installed Maxtor OneTouch III 300GB on my MacBook Pro (Tiger 10.4.8), so the Maxtor s/w is present.

The problem -- I can't reformat for Mac (as I did with the 300GB):
- Mini is recognized by Disk Utility, but
- When I go to Erase, I only have file system choices of 'Mac OS Standard' and 'UNIX'. Proceeding gives "chosen size is not valid for chosen file system" error
- On the 300GB the instructions said to choose 'Mac OS Extended' format
- Also, I notice "total capacity 0 bytes" under info (but thought this was because it appeared to OS X to be unformatted.

The question -- am I hosed, and need to return the drive? Or is there another way.

Hi Kaki Marin;

It states here that the Maxtor One Touch
III Mini now supposes Mac OS X. Maybe you might want
to get in touch with the vendor to find out if it is
a firmware upgrade or if you need to excahange to get
that support.

Allan

Thanks! I hadn't found anything about support for the Mini on Mac when searching the Maxtor website. Can you give me the link where you saw this.

So ... the thinking is that, since I don't have the option for 'Mac OS Extended' in Disk Utility, the drive's firmware is somehow reporting that it can't support this?

I'll call them in the morning.

Thanks,
Kaki
