Having two apps open at the same time - iOS 11

Hello Apple users

The new update from Apple is here and many things have been changed in iOS 11. Probably one of the features which I used daily have been removed.

Before iOS 11 you could open two apps at a time. Just swipe your finger from the right side to the left side and you could open a selected app. You could be in Safari and have your Fotos open on the right side.

After iOS 11 it’s not possible anymore. What I can find out is that I can only have two apps open at the same time if I use the dock and then make a duplicate. I don’t want the apps to be placed in the dock because it’s looking ridicoulous when you’re at the home screen. I can’t figure out how I can open another site anymore. I used it the entire time almost every day because it was an easy method instead of going from app to app.

I hope anyone can help and.. and understand my message. Thank you in advance

Hi. You can open two apps without using the dock, but you need the secret handshake:

Open Split View from the Home screen. Touch and hold an app on the Home screen or in the Dock, drag it a finger’s width or more, then continue holding it while you tap a different app with another finger. After the second app opens, drag the app you’re holding to the left or right edge of the screen, then lift your finger. (If you don’t initially drag the first app far enough, all of the apps on the Home screen begin to jiggle, which allows you to rearrange your Home screen. To start over without rearranging, press the Home button.)

You're welcome. But, if you put your most-used apps (Mail, Safari, Notes,...) in the dock, you'll find that swiping up to get the dock, and adding the second app from there is pretty handy. Also, the dock has the last three other apps you used, so it's easy to add one of them. This handles a lot of impromptu situations, like checking mail while working on something else.
