HI

Resting heart rate is shown under watchOS 4 and reflects background readings that have been taken by your Apple Watch when you have been inactive or relaxed for several minutes.

It can be viewed via the Heart Rate app on your Apple Watch:

Readings can also be reviewed via the Health app on your paired iPhone:

On your iPhone, in the Health app, go to: Health Data (tab) > Heart > Resting Rate.

Apple Watch will display your resting heart rate when it has gathered sufficient data.

All Apple Watch models can be updated to watchOS 4 if the paired iPhone is an iPhone 5s or newer model that has first been updated to iOS 11.

If you have not yet updated to watchOS 4, then follow the instructions here, starting by making a backup of your iPhone:

If you instead have an iPhone 5 or 5c, then your devices cannot be updated beyond iOS 10.x and watchOS 3.x.
