Bootcamp Partition and Windows 10 defragmentation

Hello,

I've recently transitioned from Windows 10 on a PC device to an iMac 27 (2017) with a 2TB fusion drive running a bootcamp partition.

I'm very happy with it but due to the inefficiencies of the Windows OS and drive/file allocations I'm wondering if I should be looking to install a defragmentation software on it to help keep it optimized. I've seen folks from years ago recommending the use of Diskeeper by Condusiv.

From my PC setup I have a copy and licensure of this. Is it still safe to run and use Diskeeper Pro 16 with a Windows 10 install on the more recent versions of bootcamp? I've messenged the vendor but have not hear back.

Just wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions while waiting.

Thanks

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6), 27" (2017)

I won't make an argument of this, but:

  1. Defragmentation software takes longer and is riskier to use than the method I outlined. Perhaps you've never done either and have no basis of comparison. It is much easier to do when you have backups.
  2. Modern HDDs are much faster. They don't have to be SSDs. SSDs do not require and should never be defragmented.
  3. Today hardly anyone defragments their drives unless they are slow and old drives.

I would not bother with it. Today's drives are fast and much more efficient than years ago. In most cases, if you feel the drive is slowing due to fragmentation, then it's faster and safer to backup the drive, erase it, reinstall Windows, and restore your backup.

The fusion drive is fast, but its not yet a SSD... I don't feel like needing to reload and reinstall all windows updates along with all my PC based games each time it slows. If needed, since its a Hybrid HDD I'd rather take the initiative and defragment it with Diskeeper if its safe to do.

Just wondering how other people are doing it.. As the software reload process to the windows partition takes almost a day to complete when you include the windows, updates, drivers (printers, etc), software and such. Along with any activations.

I'd rather keep this partition running just as efficiently as I can, and only have to do a reload process on a year (or greater) type process if absolutely required.
