iphone 4s how to update to ios9

How to update my iphone 4s to ios 8 or 9? because I cant download anything because if i tried to download any apps, theres something pop up in my phone and says Update to Ios8 to download?

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1.2

The only iOS that you can update your iPhone 4s to is iOS 9.3.5, the last iOS available for the iPhone 4s. If your phone is currently on iOS 7.1.2 and says that it is up to date, then you have an iPhone 4, and cannot update it.

Update the iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

if it says you are running latests version then likely you have an iphone4 rather then a 4s because the last supporting iOS version of iphone4 is 7.1.2
