How do you adjust ringer volume silently in ios 11

I want to adjust the ringer volume from the Settings > Sounds > Ringer and Alerts menu WITHOUT playing the ringtone sound. Is that possible? The default behavior on my iPhone 6s is that the phone plays your current Ringtone at the new volume setting whenever you move the slider. I want to adjust the ringer volume silently.

Hi mtnflyer83,

It sounds like you're trying to adjust your ringer and alerts volumes without your iPhone playing your ringtone. Let's work together to find a solution that fits.

One option to try would be to go to Settings > Sounds, and turn ong Change with Buttons. After you've turned on change with buttons, you can return to the Home Screen and adjust the volume without your ringtones playing.

Thanks Sarah. i tried that but stayed on the volume slider page and used the buttons. I did not navigate to the Home page as you suggested. Thanks for the solution.
