After updating to iOS 11, when I plug the iPhone 6 into USB cable, I get the following error message:
"Cannot Use Accessory
Only one accessory can be used at a time."
This never happened in any prior version.
The fix is to unplug the phone, then plug it back in... and the second time it connects properly. This happens every time.

If you wouldn't mind, try this:
Settings > Bluetooth = "Off"
Then repeat the above experiment.
My guess is your iPhone is now connecting to the car's audio system both using Bluetooth and using USB cable.
I may be wrong.
I tried your method and it worked. So, I'm assuming there is some type of bug in the new iOS because this behavior never happened in any prior version.
Curiously, later on, I got in my car again, this time with BT "on" and the original error did not occur.

Didn't work for me either (iPhone X), keep getting the same error message, have turned bluetooth and wifi off.
