What does the “ignore contact” button do on the new ios 11?

I deleted someones contact because im tired of them. So i went back in my contacts to search the name and it said something like siri saved it so the number and name reappeared in my contacts...i clicked on the name and it gave me the option to “ignore contact” so i clicked on it and everything of that person disappeared. Is it kind of like the same as block contact or what? Cause there is no ignore contact list to be found
