iOS 11 - spotlight search unable to search non indexed application names

Updated to iOS 11 on iPhone 6S. I use spotlight to search for apps to launch them. I have well over 100 and don't keep track of the screen layouts. Spotlight search used to work well for me.

Upon updating to iOS 11 I noticed, I can't launch an app from Spotlight. Further investigation has identified this only happens if you have "Search & Siri Suggestions" turned off for an app. For example, if I want to run the app calculator, on iOS 10 even when Siri was disabled I could type "calc" and get the app listing and quickly launch. With iOS 11, I have to type every single character before the app is listed, e.g. "Calculator" or "find my friends"

Furthermore, enabling "Search & Siri Suggestions" allows the app content to be searched as well, for example, contacts may be searched but you may not want to do this for outlook, due to large amounts of irrelevant false results etc.. enabling the option is not what I am after, I also don't want to allow Siri to search my entire phone, just so I can run an application via spotlight search results.

iOS application launcher has always been weak, but spotlight search compensated for that nicely. Now that it is tightly coupled with Siri, the whole thing has turned into a rubbish solution. I am very close to dumping the whole ecosystem due to this limitation.

Has anyone out there got a way to quickly search for applications to launch, without enabling Siri and allowing app data to be searchable??
