Keeping up with the old and new is getting harder and harder everyday. These days I spend more time studying Support articles, Spec's and Googling in preparation for a reply, then find that the question has already been answered or even marked in some cases.

Please read the instructions that came with the trackpad, in short no they cannot. However you can use re-chargeable batteries with both devices.
