IOS 11 and UCONNECT via USB doesn't work anymore

I've had this bug with previous phones. Here's the issue. You need to have at least one song stored on your phone for your car to fully recognize your phone as an audio source. So go to iTunes and download a single song. Now all your other audio (YouTube, Spotiy, etc) should work fine. It took me forever to figure this out.

I was on the 11.2 beta and it started working again. 11.2 was just released, install that and give it ago see if it fixes your problem. I can now use my iPhoneX via a USB cable - I tested it on the 11.2beta, but haven't tested it on the GM.. hopefully its the same.

I updated to iOS 11.1.1 and it has worked ever since. Have yet to install 11.1.2.

Also. The issue shouldn’t be that I don’t have music on the device(I have over 14,000 songs).

Not sure what they changed back and if it was purpose or accidental again but it is nice to have USB back.

I have a very similar problem with my 2009 Jeep Commanders U-Connect "RER" system that has the older Apple 30PIN (with converter to lightning) where the radio sees the media on the iPhone but half the time it struggles with reading the music/audiobooks properly. The tags come up blank - the skip is flaky, all-in-all it is no longer usable. I had to revert my dedicated iPhone 6 back to iOS 10.3.3 to fix the anomalies. Clearly there is some sort of iOS 11 problem and how it plays/interacts with the older accessories. I'll call this an Apple issue - as all iOS version prior to 11 worked w/o issue. I have updated my RER many times in the past - a fairly easy process - so I'll take a look and see if I can find a downloadable fix that I can apply to the radio. (edited - I was, at the time running iOS 11.0.1 - I have NOT tired the latest 11.0.3 to see if anything changed)

*** Side note, my daughters 2010 Chevy Cobalt is having similar problems as described by the ben2tall and his Jeep. Again - Apple broke something.

I had this problem with My 2013 Jeep Wrangler using Uconnect and a REQ stereo. With iOS 11.2 Beta 3 that just came out it seems to have fixed the ability to play music through the USB and cable for me at least. Hope that helps, and also means that when 11.2 comes out fully it will be fixed for everyone.

After trying many of the different "solutions" posted on this topic, the one that worked best for me was to:

1) Start my car (Hyundai Elantra),

2) Connect my iPhone 7 with the USB cable,

3) Turn off the phone, and then turn it back on again.

This procedure seems to have reestablished the connection between my phone and car stereo, and the playback and controls are now functioning the same as they did before iOS 11.

Bluetooth standards are not static, they evolve over time. Apple is keeping up with the standards, UConnect (likely) is not.

I have a Wranger with the 430N head unit, and it is the worst $1,200 I've ever spent. Shame on Jeep for marketing this junk in 2017, it is outdated and the UI feels 10+ years old (probably is). Shame on me for not testing it out before doing a factory order with this heap they call 430N.

For the record, the USB connection has and continues to work fine on my iPhone running latest iOS (my former iPhone 7, my new X, and my wife's 8). It is the Bluetooth connection that is aggravating to me, well that and the clunky UI.

For those having trouble with USB, try restarting or restoring the iPhone, and make sure you're using the correct USB port as one of them (at least on Wranglers) is for input only, to add photos and music to the built-in hard drive.

This solved my problem! First thing I did setting up my new iPhone was delete the Apple Music app. Then found my USB connection to my car stereo no longer worked. I assumed it was the new iPhone/iOS. Turns out, this was it! Kinda dumb...but who cares, it’s working 🙂 thanks! Would never have thought of it.

UConnect will need to update their software. Hopefully they were testing iOS 11 while it was in beta. I would contact them and ask when the update will be available.

The manufacturer of the toaster is Dodge in your case and the bread is Apple. The toaster (your vehicle) no longer toasts bread (no longer works with your iPhone) so you contact the toaster manufacturer to get it fixed.

UConnect is not updating anything anymore. I was told a couple of weeks ago that it's being fazed out. I am having similar troubles with my 2017 Cherokee not connecting to many of the apps (for example Pandora) via the UConnect system. I understand that the 2018 models will have Apple Play so UConnect has given up on those of us with the old system. 😟

I assume that you’ve tried deleting the phone from your radio and re-synced the Bluetooth connection.

Also. Since I updated my radio to the latest uConnect. It added an option to shutoff auto play. But this can be changed back. It did make playing music kinda odd at first. Almost like the device wasn’t being recognized.

Distributed testing is exactly what Apple's Developer program is for. It is not up to Apple to conduct the testing, it is the developer of the equipment, in this case Fiat Chrysler, the bozos who created UConnect. They had every opportunity to pre-test a major software release and either notify Apple of a problem, or fix the problem on their end depending on who's not following standard protocols.

I have had nearly zero issues with multiple vehicles and peripheral devices with each iOS release over many years, yet UConnect continues to stutter and drop audio over Bluetooth, despite all the normal geriatrics a user typically performs to address software issues. Then there's the USB connectivity in this very thread. So the smoking gun here is quite clearly Fiat Chrysler and their UConnect interface -- blame their laziness, not Apple.
