Ipod 20gb 4g shows a wall socket picture and wont charge

After restoring my ipod on the screen it has an cord with an arrow pointing to an outlet what does that mean? I cant do anything with my ipod! How do I fix it I tried resetting it. Its just a regular ipod older 20gb no color screen. All i have is a usb cord. What can i do?

Older iPods have to be connected to wall power to update or restore. Your iPod should have come with a wall charger. Plug the USB cable into the wall charger, and plug the wall charger into the wall.

can you use a firewire cable
i bought it used and it didnt come with the wall charger

Yes, FireWire provides enough power. If you have a computer with a FireWire port and you have a FireWire iPod cable, that will allow the process to complete.

I really don't know. You might look on eBay or something for a used one. You should only need it occasionally, so you might see if you can borrow one from a friend.
