10.13 High Sierra Wi-fi issue

Update process from 10.12 to 10.13 on mid-2011 iMac was uneventful. However, an issue is that after a shutdown/restart or waking from sleep, wi-fi won't automatically connect. Turning wifi off/on doesn't change anything. Wireless network SSIDs are hidden, so they don't usually (sometimes do) show up in the network list. After clicking "turn wifi on", when they show up in the network list, choosing one will make the connection. Steps I've taken:

Reboot wireless router
Remove existing wifi configuration files from /library/preferences/systemconfiguration, followed by reboot
Create new profile, reboot, still no automatic connection
Added a couple of DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and .4 for now). This didn't change anything
For the first time in forever, did an SMC reset, which didn't change anything

There were no wifi issues with Sierra 10.12, so this is new.

Open to any ideas. TIA!

10.13.2 did not fix the issue ... cannot use hidden network - can't connect when restarting wifi or coming out of sleep.

All users who are facing this issue should open a ticket to Apple, otherwise no changes will be applied to the Operating System.

Same issue is happening with a brand-new iMac 27" (2017).

Well at least you can still enable/disable Wi-Fi; that’s something I can’t even do anymore... reboot doesn’t fix anything anymore.

Sounds good.

I'd say if reboots or shutdowns and power ons

don't eliminate the fix then it's probably persistent.

I'd make backup now.

Quick update: in my case it’s most likely hardware issue with latest iMac 27” 5K 2017. Formatted hard drive and reinstall steps of MacOS give same issue. I’ll go to Apple service point for solution.

If you're under warranty and it appears so, do so before it expires.

My SSID is already, and aways was, unhidden. I think this is not a solution. Maybe work´s for a time only.

There is a supplemental update to 10.13.2. It may be related to the intel problem, but may be it also resolves the wifi issue.

Changing from 5GHz to 2.4GHz solved it for me.

Man, this last update last night

Knocked the wind out of my wifi

Had to jump through lots of hoops for many hours to get back online.

I just did that last night,

TOOK me over 4 hours to fix what it messed up with my wifi

It was working fine before

And a lot of strange stuff it gave me.
