Mac vulnerability to blueborne

I read that to avoid vulnerability to blueborne attack, I should turn off Bluetooth but if I do, I lose control of my Mac because it has a wireless keyboard and mouse which uses Bluetooth. Apple support did not have an answer to this potential vulnerability other than using a USB keyboard and mouse. I am using a USB keyboard and mouse as I write.

Does anyone know if this vulnerability of wireless keyboard and mouse to blueborne been addressed and effectively countered?

This article from Intego looks interesting. What is BlueBorne? An Apple Device FAQ | The Mac Security Blog

It is reassuring about current iMac vulnerability to Blueborne but it is nevertheless cautious about the possibility of future attacks. The advice is to turn off Bluetooth unless it is required. If we use remote mouse and keyboard, it is required so there is a decision to be made.

I am a simple man from the land of the sugar beet. Please bear with me.

I have OSX El Capitan 10.11.6 on an iMac Late 2112. Is this iMac vulnerable to blueborne if it has Bluetooth switched on to connect wireless keyboard and mouse to iMac?

On-line Apple support could not answer this question directly. It suggested using a USB keyboard and mouse to avoid this vulnerability. An Apple Support senior advisor similarly did not give me a clear answer. So, please, where is an Apple source which states categorically that my iMac is safe to use with Bluetooth switched on?

Thank you for the replies and links. The replies are re-assuring but I am still left wondering why Apple Support was unable simply to tell me that there is no vulnerability to Blueborne on my Mac. Unlike its response, my question was very clear.

I am very security conscious but this was not jumping at shadows. I am currently operating with Bluetooth off but I may reverse that decision if it becomes too inconvenient. It's fine just now. I would not have Java or Flash if it was not required for a couple of applications. I do have my Firewall on and although I understand that anti-virus is a business which thrives on alerts and scares, I do have anti-virus software as well. We are beset but fraudsters visiting in person, by phone or internet so it makes sense to me. Apple experts will know better than I so they can better judge the dangers. I will take the cautious route.

Thank you again for your replies.
