"The recovery server could not be contacted" when installing macOS High Sierra

Hi, I've been trying to install High Sierra (missed Sierra by a day). When I click "Continue" to set up installation, there's a notification: "The recovery server could not be contacted." What does that mean? I've deleted the "Install macOS High Sierra" application and "get"/download again from the App Store but it hasn't made a difference yet. Also, I've tried installing OS X El Capitan but it "cannot be installed on this computer."

experience the same today, i check the date in the terminal and for some reason, the date of my mbp was reset to january 1, 2017, so i type "date 1003212217" for oct 3, 2017 9:22pm, and then it worked successfully.

Hello! How do you modify the date? There seems to be a difference of 4 min between the time indicated in the terminal and the time that my laptop says in the upper right-hand corner. If that makes a difference, how do i modify it? I get the same error and my laptop keeps on restarting unexpectedly. 😟 I'm new with MacBooks so I don't know what to do.

This is a MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012), with OS X El Capitan. This is the shut down error I get after restarting *Problem Details and System Configuration":

There seems to be a difference of 4 min between the time indicated in the terminal and the time that my laptop says in the upper right-hand corner.

That means the task that updates the on-screen time crashed 4 minutes before you looked at the time in Terminal.

The Internal System Time is maintained in one place, and there are no other known issues with it not getting updated properly. I suggest you change the on-screen time display to "flash the time separators".

System Preferences > Date & Time > Clock. When the colons are flashing, the time is still being updated. When they stop, it has crashed.

The issue referred to by others on this thread is the difference between the time on your Mac and the time on the Internet.

If you are NOT In the process of Installing Sierra, and getting the same message, you would get more readers for your issue if you start a new thread with a meaningful title. Your panic report does not have any information that immediately tells what the problem is, so it needs some more background -- and that would be better on a new thread.
