How do I change devices on child account

My child currently is set up on my Family Sharing with an iPod Touch. We got her an iPhone so I now want to remove her from the Touch and add her to the iPhone. I have not been able to find the steps to do so and have not been able to figure it out. Anyone know how to remove a child account from one device and add it to another?

The Apple ID identifies a person, not a device. I.e., one ID can be used with multiple devices.

Simply set up the new iPad with the child’s Apple ID.

If you’d like you can make a backup of the iPod Touch and restore it onto the iPad. This will transfer some settings and data to the iPad.

Thanks for your quick reply. I have done so: currently the child's Apple ID is set up and appears to be working properly on the iPod Touch and now on the new iPhone 6s. When I look to see which devices are within Family Sharing, I see the my devices of course and the child's iPod Touch. Again, the child's account is used to login on the iPhone 6s but I do not see it among my list of devices.
