Resisted but had to try High Sierra because of FCPX update, after trying got a similar warning saying there was a Firmware problem, had to start over and since my last Time Machine update was on a later update of Sierra it was nit recognised, lost everything, yes it is becoming like Microsoft, from where I quit 11 years ago after a quarter of century of dictatorship. ****!
Thought I'd pass this on in case anyone is interested. I decided to try and install High Sierra one last time and the short story is: it worked this time. The long story includes a few reboots where I thought the computer was stuck in installation mode. I got an error part way through the installation telling me to quit the installation. I tried rebooting in recovery mode, chose the "Reinstall the OS" option and High sierra was finally installed. Don't ask how this happened I'm just glad it did, however software updates shouldn't be relying on unexplained phenomena 🙂
Nick:
You are right, Apple is toying with up like Microsoft did in the past and in the end I decided to cut it off and move to Apple in 2007. Now I feel the same way as I did in the past and Apple seems to be only interested in selling phones to nerds and stupid fanatics. Lost a lot of time and data trying to install High Sierra twice, if FCPX does not compel mi to do so I'll remain in Sierra, getting tired of Apple antics.
I'm totally in agreement with you. I used Windows for years because it was in my work environment, and I had my share of frustrations being on the bleeding edge of OS updates. I was pretty much gonna stay in Sierra (actually I didn't update Sierra to its latest release because created some video display glitches), main reason I tried multiple times to install High Sierra because one software I want only works with High Sierra.
that sounds like Windows...
I don't have another admin account, I'll try safe mode one of these days, any ideas on what's causing this and why safe mode might be a solution?
The Safe Mode prevents 3rd party software from loading so if it is something installed on the computer that is affecting the installation, it shouldn't load.
tried in safe mode, got the exact same error message
Can't install High Sierra
