Safari will not play through bluetooth

Safari is only playing through my internal speakers. I am trying to get it to play through Bluetooth headphones (Bose Soundsport). I do not have issues with other applications, iTunes, Google Chrome, Spotify, etc. I am using Chrome for the time being, but I prefer Safari. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash, and uninstalled and reinstalled my headphones multiple times. I have tried disabling and enabling my headphones while connected to Youtube through Safari, and manually changing the output source. When I manually change the output source to the headphones, sound from Safari stops from the internal speakers but will not play through the headphones.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), macOS High Sierra (10.13), null

I found this because I was having a similar issue. I frequent TuneIn and it wasn't working via Safari. I then tried going straight to the ESPN affiliate and couldn't get that to work. Spotify, Google Chrome, YouTube (via Safari) were all working. After reading this...and control clicking on the URL for TuneIn.com, I unchecked Enable content blockers and Allowed all auto play content. It's got TuneIn working again, ESPN working again, but not the local affiliate. Thanks for the info!

Hello Apriliamiller,

Thanks for letting us know. When you're using YouTube and Pandora, you're accessing them through Safari, correct?

If so, let's try this. If the Flash content allows access to the Flash specific settings on the contextual menu, follow these steps:

1. Right click (control + click) on the Flash content area.
2. Select "Settings". If you do not see this option, then you will not be able to access the settings from this content. Try different Flash content.
3. In the Flash settings window, look for the Audio Output tab, which is identified by a speaker icon and appears on the far right.
4. Change the audio output device using the drop down menu, then close the Flash settings window.

If this audio is played without the bluetooth connected, the setting will revert to the built-in audio option and you will have to switch it back manually next time you listen to it.

Let us know how this goes.

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities Apriliamiller,

I see that you're having an issue with Safari not playing on your MacBook Pro through your Bluetooth speakers. I understand your preference and wanting to use Safari and I'd be happy to help.

Let's have you try to reset the SMC on your computer and see if this will help with this issue:

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac
