Cannot copy and paste in finder high sierra

Hi, it seems i cannot copy and paste in the finder in High Sierra. Copy seems to be working but the paste command does not. I right click and I see copy, but paste does not show. Keyboard shortcuts don't work either.

Thank you!

IMAC (RETINA 5K, 27-INCH, LATE 2015), macOS High Sierra (10.13), null

this is painful!

It's best to avoid the first few releases of a new OS. Wait until the OS matures before updating. Always make a backup before updating. I suggest in addition to Time Machine that you also have a clone backup. A clone is bootable. To fix some issues with drives incorrectly formatted as APFS you need to be able to boot from either the Recovery drive or your clone backup to fix.

The change in file system from HFS+ to APFS in High Sierra has not been a smooth process for some users. Users that have a fusion iMac aren't even converted to APFS at this time. Please check in Disk Utility to be sure you have not formatted your drive(s) as APFS.

A fusion iMac has two internal drives. A small SSD (flash storage) and a HHD (spinning 5400 rpm) drive.

This shows a drive formatted as APFS.

the latest point release FAILED to install, in a rather spectacular fashion I might add... continually attempted to install, fail, back to install, fail, over & over... finally was able to abort. Now Apple suggests that I install the update via SAFE mode... are you kidding me? That's not how you release software by telling the customer, use SAFE mode and debug our cr@p. Sorry, a tad upset at this latest release.

Restart in Safe Mode - I can almost safely bet that copy and paste will work in Safe Mode.

Then restart normally and test.

If, as I suspect, copy and paste works in Safe Mode but not when booted normally this will indicate that some third party software you have is causing the problem.

To help us help you figure out what it might be, please run the diagnostic tool Etrecheck and post its report here.

I ended up going to High Sierra because iTunes failed (corrupted from cleanup operations from CleanMyMac 3 in prep for High Sierra) and iTunes can not be reinstalled w/out full OS installation... hence the early death march to High Sierra. I do agree, having a backup would of been smart, but my client is very sensitive to having removable hard drives laying about (something about data security - eek). So, now I'm in a holding pattern waiting for Apple Engineers to look at all the logs that were collected... lucky I didn't have to copy & paste. HAHA.

Never use Clean my Mac in the future.

Tell your client that using a computer without backup is like driving a car without a seat belt and air bag. Dangerous!

You can reinstall the OS over itself to reinstall an app like iTunes. It does not delete personal data.

Recovery Drive options;

• command R to reinstall the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac, without upgrading to a later version

• option command R to upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac

• shift option command R to reinstall the macOS that came with your Mac, or the version closest to it that is still available

I already updated to os 10.13.1. I copied a url from Fetch and tried to paste in a browser, does not work. The "paste" sign does not even appear. Had no problem in former os versions. I copied files from the "Freeze Files.nosync" folder or the whole folder from Garageband (not a third party application) onto the desktop, did not work. Upon pasting, It just froze and tried calculating the time for just a few mb. There are more little problems here and there. Those are very serious problems, which prevent work on the computer from being done.
