I have read that iPhone 5 has “expired” but I am experiencing problems with the iOS 11 and I was wondering if the iPhone 5 is still compatible with the iOS 11

No idea what you mean by "expired". It is completely normal for older hardware to be unable to run newer software. Nothing "expired" about that. The older iPhone still work as always, they simply cannot handle the newer software.
