No sound after iOS 11.0 and 11.0.1 Update
After i did iOS 11 and iOS 11.0.1 updates my phone just doesn't play any sounds, even the Speaker icon is disable during calls. I go back to iOS 10.3.3 and works perfectly.

Turns out the problem is a conflict with airplay. Go to control panel, press in the center of the four icons showing airplane mode, cellular data, wifi and bluetooth to access airplay (not on one of the icons, in the middle of that panel), turn off airplay, do a hard restart with airplay off. Voila.
Mr. Morry, After over an hour of useless ideas, the Apple senior support tech and I stumbled on the answer. It's a conflict with airplay. Turn off airplay, hard restart the iPhone with airplay off. Done.
I have the same issue as above. I have lost three calls now where the person/group I am talking with can no longer hear me. I have to end the call and call them back. I see it says to "turn off" airplay, but I see no option to turn off airplay. My screen looks like the above screenshot.
In case it was not clear, the airplay icon shows "contacts only". If you touch the airplay icon, you'll see the other choices, "everyone" and "receiving off". Select "receiving off". Then do a hard restart. That worked perfectly for me. I hope it works for you, as well.
I had to turn off Airdrop then clear the cache, do this by holding the power off button until you see the slider, then hold the home Butt until the phone comes back to home screen, then power off for a few seconds and restart, bingo everything works fine
I have had this issue since the ios 7 upgrade. Have tried all the suggestions from all the forums. Have had the phone to Genius Bar. They worked on the phone for over an hour and told me I was out of luck, that the audio will no longer work and they stated they have no idea why. Have been trying the reset options suggested for every update since. The only option I am being told is the "hardware is bad" and that I need to get a new phone. It is a wee bit frustrating.
Same problem!!! I was having this problem with my old 5c. Traded it in for a used 6. It worked fine until today when suddenly, almost all audio failed! No dictation. No Siri. No headphone jack — doesn’t recognize when headphones are plugged in. Callers cannot hear me. Can’t hear phone caller through front speaker but can hear on speakerphone.
I erased the phone and then set it up manually as a new phone. Still no audio. What is going on? This is too much of a coincidence to be a hardware failure. But my $225 phone is pretty much worthless (as a phone) until I can find someone who really understands the product and cares enough to figure it out. If Apple doesn’t solve this, I’m moving on to Android.
For others having problems like this in iOS 11.2: your phone might be trying to route sounds to your tv or sound bar. Press and hold the “music” button in the slide up control panel, and then the little triangle / wifi icon in upper right corner of the music window that pops up. It should show a list of devices you can send music to. My tv was selected instead of iPhone. Switching it to phone fixed it. I didn’t clue in that the sound problem only happened when I was at home.
I didn’t know this would send all sound effects to the tv!
I exprienced the same problem with my iphone x after update to ios 11.1. I ended up restoring the phone and everything was ok. I deliberately refrain from doing subsequent updates until the recent 11.2 update. The same problem returned after i did the update to 11.2. This is really frustrating! Even turning the airdrop to receiving off doesn’t work. Apple seriously needs to do something about it. Having an iphone x that doesn’t let u to hear your callers is a BIG JOKE!
I experienced the same problem!
The quality of Iphone has been getting worse and worse since Jobs is gone. For the first time, I start to think of buying other brand of cell phone instead of Iphone. It's frustrating to have iphone make no sound and fail to make a phone call because of the problem.
It's a **** simple error. Apple makes huge profit, but produces such a bad quality device. Can't believe it. It seems to be time to get rid of apple stocks now.
However, I figured out how to fix this problem.
get into control center => hold on 'music' icon for a few seconds => expanded music icon shows up => taps on the trangle/wifi icon at the top right corner => see if you have 'iphone ' selected. => if not, slowly insert headphone in and pull out, keep trying it, and you will see 'iphone' at a point, stop inserting and pulling, click on 'iphone' to select 'iphone'.
Once the above is done, the sound comes back as normal.
I updated to Ios 11.2.1. No sound on calls. Iphone 7 useless as a PHONE!!.
Airdrop set to Receiving off. Music trangle is set to Iphone.
Still not working. I concur. Time to ditch iphone.
Quality control before software rollout is gone down the crapper.
Any news on an actual update that will get iphone to wirk as a phone, and not all the other crap that is nice to have??
I had the same problem. No sound in calls no speaker option nor did it recognise my headphones. Downloaded reiboot from tenoshare. Went in to recovery mode thru the program and out of recovery mode. Now it’s fixed. Try it out guys
If you're still on the beta version of iOS 11.0/11.0.1 then update to the newest version hard reset your device or call Apple.
not the problem. it's a conflict with airplay. Turn off airplay and perform hard restart.
