iOS 11 podcast autoplay

Anyone figured out a way around Apple ditching podcast autoplay/play next in ios11? I’ll listen to multiple episodes on a run and found out the hard way this feature was jettisoned after updating my phone. I know there’s a “play next” feature, but can’t find a way to view what is scheduled to play next. It’s annoying to have to go through several screens to set it up and have no way to back track and see what was entered. Why would Apple get rid of such a simple interface for this?

This flummoxed me, too. When you're looking at the episode that is currently playing--the Now Playing screen, though it's not labeled as such--keep swiping up to beneath the Episode Notes and you'll see (editable) Up Next.

While that helps, it's not a complete solution. There is a problem if you don't allow the app to use mobile data* or have a poor connection. As it reaches a podcast episode that has been released but not downloaded, it just displays a 'Mobile Data is Turned Off' message and stops playing. You then need to hit OK, go back to the station, find the next downloaded episode and play it. Possibly while driving.

There is currently no option to limit the station to downloaded episodes.

(*because in some countries, there are no providers that offer unlimited data plans at a reasonable price.)

Trying to make this work fir me...

Ok i created a station for my subscribed podcast.

There is an option for “sort order” so i chose newest to oldest so that the list would show the latest downloads.

But... sort order is also ”play” order, so niw it wants to play backward from newest to okdest.

Is there a remedy?

(I’ve not yet played thru an entire episode to witness the station automatically playing the next episode in sequence, which is what originally led me here)

Cyberbiker's fix mentions entering the Stations option in your Library in order to change settings for continuous play...... I don't have ANYTHING in the iOS 11Podcast Player mentioning "Stations" anymore.

"Shows " simply replaces "Podcasts" for no good reason, which is stupid, because the word "podcast" is so much more specific and understandable, like how CD's aren't called "records". Anyway, " Shows" doesn't eventually lead to an option to set up nor modify a "Station" so, again, how are you guys modifying settings in Stations anymore in iOS 11?

And BTW Apple, change just for change's sake is stupid and such a waste of the end-user's time. If I wanted a GUI that required an endless learning curve and looked like dog vomit, I'd go with Windows or Android. I switched platforms because your stuff USED to just make sense and USED to just work. This version is so slow and glitchy it makes me think a cheaper throw-away Korean phone maybe IS the way to go. I'd still be annoyed, but there would be an extra $200 or so in my bank account.

I checked ou the overcast app from start I’m not really a big fan because you podcasts are gonna adds, and if you don’t want the adds you will have to pay.

Note also that the payment appears to be a yearly subscription, not a one-off.

And as usual, its promotional approach leaves a lot to be desired; the usual glitzy, showy fandango, but no mention of how easy it is (or indeed whether it's possible to) subscribe to a Podcast Feed URL that is not listed in their display.

Oh! and the "best bit" - they tell us it's designed for the iPhone, iPad and even carplay, but no specific mention of the humble iPod Touch. I could always assume I guess.
