IMAP, allow insecure authentication
MacBook Air, macOS High Sierra (10.13)
If it's a Gmail account you might need to set to allow insecure apps in Google Settings.
Allowing less secure apps to access your account - Google Account Help
Found these comments by a user in my notes:
Called Apple Support.
When I called (chatted, really), they had me open KeyChain Access and search for "veri"
I went through each entry and deleted all the ones with a red warning (usually including "unauthorized" or "Unknown").
Then they had me restart and Google accounts started working again, and I could add new ones.
I did have to re-enter all the passwords, but it's not a bad as I feared it would be.
I submit the same bug report now. It's so sad that not been solved in the last beta version 10.13.2 (17C83a) released today.
It's possible Apple will not add this feature back. It could be a round about way of trying to get users to use a secure setting.
I'm glad to hear other apps are working with your account.
No, it does not appear to be fixed. Kind of an obvious thing to fix, easy to reproduce.
It's still not fixed in Version 10.13.4 Beta (17E190a).
What's wrong with you, Apple !
Thanks. The issue persists in safe mode and in other user accounts.
To recap, the issue is that the checkbox to 'allow insecure authentication' (in advanced IMAP settings) can not be saved in a checked state. This makes it impossible to use insecure authentication.
Disappointing to say the least, I was hoping someone may have figured out a sudo command to force enable "Allow insecure authentication" that we could run in Terminal. I'm not a sudo/plist guru so to me this would be really useful if we have some experts in this area.

have no idea what 35571476 is as I have no access.
Each bug report is assigned a number. Your report was same as another bug."
What is not clear is "will be closed" means it's fixed or they are not going to fix.
I'm not debating whether your setup is more secure, I'm saying Apple Mail doesn't know about your particular setup. Mail is not a business/professional app. It's a basic app provided to Mac users to get their email.
@polokov
sorry to bother u
concerning "3)" can u CONFIRM that Apple officially acknowledged it is a bug, and it is on the list to be fixed.
I had multiple phone conversations with a Apple care guy (see my posts) and this guy is really diving me nuts. If you can confirm, Apple officially acknowledged it is a bug, I consider terminate correspondence with this -sorry to say, unacceptable attitude in spite of his incapability- guy. If I continue, I'll probably get a heart attack or stroke soon... 😠

Thanks, I did. I understand what the setting is for, it's about the checkbox that can't be saved as checked.
Thanks, I also noticed it in beta and de-installed for that reason. Was disappointed the bug is still in the final version of High Sierra.
I can't imagine this effects only a few users. Did you send feedback?
No this is not about Gmail. Gmail IMAP requires TLS/SSL so there is no use in trying to allow insecure authentication.
What Email Provider? Comcast, Earthlink, Cox, ATT, Yahoo, iCloud, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail (other)
