High Sierra won't let me open app from unidentified developer despite gatekeeper settings

FWIW, there is no "Anywhere" setting in High Sierra. I did run into a problem installing VirtualBox. Once the install failed dialog came up I had to open System Preferences > Security & Privacy and allow it to run. You might check that. Otherwise, I don't know.

I'm trying to install VirtualBox as well and reached the point where they tell me to open Security Preferences > Security & Privacy to click Allow the software install to load. Clicking the Allow button does nothing. The install won't continue, rerunning the install continues to error, running with a sudo command in terminal runs into the same error, no prompt appears. Seems like a pretty serious bug for developers.

It looks like the "Allow"-Button does not work at all. You can click it, but nothing happens.

You might have MagicPrefs installed or another Mouse Tweaking Tool.

Disable MagicPrefs for a minute and everything works as explained in the FAQs.

MacOSX takes care, no other program clicks around in your security-settings, for rather obvious reasons.

As i did not find any single statement about this issue despite googling around for hours, i simply had to add this here.

This all sounds very helpful indeed but I don’t know what the MagicPrefs would be or even if I have that at all. I don’t use a mouse either, I imagine that would affect that solution as well. I only use the trackpad as it is a laptop and I don’t like using a mouse.

Open terminal, and put in: sudo spctl --master-disable

This will give the old "anywhere"-option, when you open settings -> security

Try right clicking on the file and chose "Open" from the popup menu.

Do you mean the Blitz Smart Card Plugin adapter or a different one?

It's possible whichever one you mean is not compatible with High Sierra.

Do you have some mouse-tweaking tool running? Like MagicPrefs? With this running, the "allow"-button does not work. See my last post about that.
