How do you use music apps with Do Not Disturb While Driving on?

Am I the only one who thinks Apple totally botched the execution of this Do Not Disturb while driving feature? I'm totally down for having the feature shut off text, email, and other notifications of this nature while I'm driving, but why do I have to exit the Do Not Disturb mode every time I want to change radio stations on my phone or open up maps and things of this nature? Basically, anytime I want to unlock my phone while in Do Not Disturb while driving, I have to tell my phone I'm not driving and shut it off. I have a dash mount and use my phone just like I would for any radio, cd player or navigation system that is built into my truck.
